Concrete Pool Construction in Auckland
From strong concrete shells to smooth Hydrazzo finishes, our builds are managed by the team that carries your vision from plan to plunge. The dig, the drainage, the shell and the finish are all ours, so the people who planned your pool are the people building it.
How Your Pool Is Built
Set-Out and Excavation
Once approvals are in place, the pool is marked out on site, so you can stand where it will be and see it at full size before any digging starts.
Excavation, drainage and structural preparation are completed properly and efficiently. This is where experience matters, and we bring over 15 years of it. The ground is taken out to the depths in the design, with the steps and ledges shaped in as the dig goes.
Groundworks cover
- Marking out the pool on site
- Excavation to the design depths
- Drainage around the pool
- Structural preparation of the base

Drainage and Pipework
A pool is plumbing as much as it is concrete. The pipework that runs the filtration, the drainage around the shell, and where the water goes when the pool is backwashed or emptied all have to be right before the concrete covers them. In Auckland that water goes to the wastewater network, not the stormwater.
The Concrete Pool Company was founded by certified plumbers and drainlayers, so this part of the build is not handed to anyone else. With our plumbing and drainage background, compliance is built into the process from day one.
We lay
- Filtration and return pipework
- Drainage around the shell
- Connections for backwash and emptying
- Pipework tested before it is covered

The Concrete Shell
Your concrete shell is formed and poured with precision. Engineered and formed on-site, concrete provides long-term durability and performance, especially across varied ground conditions.
The shell is the part of the pool you never see once it is finished, and the part everything else depends on. Steps, ledges and seating are formed as part of it, so they are as solid as the walls around them.

The shell carries
- The walls and floor, to the design depths
- Steps, ledges and seating
- Fittings set in place before the pour
- The base for the finish
Finishing
We apply your chosen Hydrazzo finish and complete the final detailing. Every surface is refined, durable and built to last.
The finish is the step that turns a concrete structure into a pool. The detailing around it, at the waterline and along the edges, is what you look at every time you walk past.
Finishing covers
- The Hydrazzo interior
- Detailing at the waterline
- Steps and edges finished clean
- Filling the pool and balancing the water

Handover
We walk you through everything you need to know and how to care for your pool: how it runs, what the water needs, and what to keep an eye on in the first few weeks. Then it’s time for your first swim.
If you would rather someone else looked after the pool from there, we can recommend ongoing service providers.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to build a concrete pool?
Timeframes vary depending on site conditions and council approvals.
Once approvals are in place, the construction phase typically runs efficiently and to schedule. We provide a clear timeline before work begins so you know what to expect.
Do I need a building consent for a pool?
In most cases, yes. A swimming pool in New Zealand generally needs a building consent, and the barrier around it has to meet clause F9 of the Building Code.
We manage the documentation and council approvals on your behalf, so you are not left working through the process yourself.
Can you build on sloping or challenging sites?
Yes. Because each pool is engineered and formed on-site, concrete pools are well suited to a variety of site conditions. Site-specific factors are assessed during the design stage.
How much maintenance does a concrete pool require?
Like all pools, regular water balancing and cleaning are required.
We provide handover guidance so you understand how to maintain your pool correctly, and we can recommend ongoing service providers if required.
