Bespoke Concrete Pool Design
Every pool starts with a conversation. We shape your pool around your space and how you want to use it, ensuring a seamless fit with your Auckland property. Because concrete is formed on-site, the shape, size and depth are yours to decide, not limited to a mould.
What Goes Into the Design
How You Will Use It
The first conversation is about how the pool will be used, before anyone draws a shape. A pool for swimming lengths, a pool for children finding their feet and a pool for cooling off on a summer evening are three different pools, and the design starts from yours.
From there we look at how it sits with the house: what you see from inside, where the sun falls through the day, and how you get from the back door to the water.
We talk through
- Who will swim, and how
- Lengths, play or lounging
- Sun, shade and shelter from the wind
- The view from the house

Shape, Size and Depth
Concrete pools are fully customisable in shape, size and depth. Your pool is designed around your home and lifestyle, not limited to a mould, so a narrow section can take a long lap pool and a courtyard can take a plunge pool sized to fit it.
Depth is designed the same way. Somewhere shallow to stand and sit, somewhere deeper to swim, or one even depth throughout: the floor is formed to suit how the pool will be used.

Formed to suit
- Long, narrow lap pools
- Compact pools for courtyards
- Shallow areas for sitting and play
- A depth that changes along the pool
Steps, Ledges and Lighting
Steps, ledges, seating and lighting can be designed directly into the structure for a seamless finish. Because they are part of the concrete rather than added afterwards, they are planned from the beginning, when moving a step or widening a ledge is a change to a drawing rather than to the concrete.
A full-width entry step doubles as somewhere to sit. A shallow ledge gives children a place to play and adults somewhere to lie in the water. Lighting set into the walls changes how the pool looks from the house after dark.

Sloping and Challenging Sites
Because each pool is engineered and formed on-site, concrete pools are well suited to a variety of site conditions. Site-specific factors are assessed during the design stage, so a slope, a tight way in or difficult ground is planned for rather than found halfway through the dig.
This is where a plumbing and drainage background earns its keep. Before the shape is final we look at what is already under the ground and where water goes when it rains. With over 15 years in excavations, we understand what sits beneath the surface.

We assess
- Slope and retaining
- Access for machinery
- Existing drains and services
- Where stormwater runs across the site
Finish and Water Colour
The final water colour is influenced by the Hydrazzo finish, pool depth and surrounding materials. A pale finish reads as bright, clear water and a darker one as a deeper blue, and the coping, paving and planting around the pool change how it looks again.
We guide you through finish and colour selections at the design stage, so the result complements your home and landscape. The colours themselves are on the Hydrazzo Finishes page.

The colour depends on
- The Hydrazzo colour
- The depth of the pool
- The coping and paving
- How much sun the pool gets
